Jazz Fest occurs at a beautiful time of year here in New Orleans,
the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May, when the
sun is bright and ya just gotta have a really cool hat! The Contemporary
Crafts area is located over near the Jazz and Gospel tents. It
is a juried show, and I have been blessed for 8 or so years in
a row that the jury has liked my hats, allowing me to have a booth
and sell them at the Festival. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed
for future years!!!)
Below are
some pictures of my loyal collectors, as well as first-time buyers.
Some people make a beeline to my booth with last year's hat in
hand, ready to pick out a new one for this year. Sometimes there
is a real hat frenzy! The crowd gets so thick, you can't get near
my booth, and hats are flying! As I gaze out over the milling
crowds, I can spot Kabuki Hats from years past, and it's like
seeing old friends. In fact, customers make a point of stopping
by to tell me stories about their hats, like how often people
walk up to them and ask, "Is that a Kabuki hat?"
